2023 has started out as a busy year for the Thompson family. With the wife back in school, teaching dance and both of us working, the days are just flying by. So when Andrea found out that she was going to be on spring break the week of March 13th through the 17th, we knew that we had to plan some things to maximize our time off. We both scheduled vacation that week and then we got to discussing possible adventures. Hmm, let’s start by heading a couple hours northwest to visit Walt and Jan and on our way we can stop by somewhere I’ve been wanting to visit for a while now, Cumberland Falls.

We arrived in the parking lot around 10 in the morning and the excitement started to build. The river is behind us and the roar of the falls in our ears. We had to take a moment and bundle up due to the 28° day, but the cold never stops us. After adding the appropriate attire, we journey to the viewing areas of the falls.

Unfortunately with the frigid temps the lower areas for viewing were closed so we made our way out to the further areas to take some pics. It’s only a 5-10 minute walk from parking to get to the areas to view the falls and should have wheelchair accessibility. We took a few minutes to soak in the beautiful nature in front of us, snapped a couple pictures and took the drone for a quick flight. This was an amazing place to visit and I can definitely see us coming back in the future, especially to check out some of the nearby hiking trails. We stopped in the gift shop on the way back to the car and got us a couple souvenirs to commemorate our visit here.

With the heat on high we started making out journey to Walt’s house. After about 30 minutes give or take we were there! We had a wonderful time catching up, watching Aurelia play and even cooked a delicious dinner together. This day was a perfect start to our spring break vacation. Next up for the Thompsons .. the Sand Caves… Stay tuned
