Day two of our vacation and today’s adventure takes us to our nation’s capital, Washington DC. I always love coming to the city with the sights, and the smells. It kinda feels like home, oh wait.. that’s because I am from here, well like 5 minutes outside of DC. Anyways, I have and will always enjoy coming back to the area (just not to live). We started our day with a visit to another place I love to stop by, Wawa. I am not sure what it is about the place, but I am constantly saying that I wish we had one in our area, and after today, Andrea has become a fan.
After our tasty breakfast we hit the road with DC being the destination. I did some research before our trip, and found a really cool app that you can use to reserve parking places without any hassles. I will include the link below. I didn’t want to have Aurelia in the back getting fussy as we drove in circles trying to find the best place to park. Honestly the place we ended up going with was a perfect spot. On the way to the parking garage, we stopped by and picked up Grandma at Ava’s place, more on that next time. A few minutes later we were parked and heading to our first location, the Smithsonian Museum. It has been a few years, like 20ish, since I have visited, so I was excited to see it all again! I believe we all were having a great time seeing all of the exhibits and displays. It was upstairs that we really got a treat, the live butterfly exhibit. It was really cool to be in their environment and seeing the beauty of the species.
After we got our fill of the Smithsonian, we made our way past the Capital and on to the United States Botanic Garden. I LOVE this place! We briefly explored but cut our visit short so we can continue to see as many places as we can in the short amount of time we had. We left the gardens and cruised past the White House on our way to the WWII Memorial. But wait, what is that? YES! Food trucks!! We made a quick pit stop to refuel our bodies with carbs and sugar (pretzels & ice creams). Even Aurelia got in on the action, and she loved her pretzel. Ah, much better, now let’s continue our quest. A few minutes later we made it to the memorial, and continued along the reflective pool with the Lincoln Memorial in sight. I was so looking forward to snapping a family picture in front of the Lincoln, and have talked about it since our last attempt on this trip, however as we were just about there, we look at Aurelia and she was passed out! Haha, lucky girl. So we snapped our pictures and continued on to the next location, the FDR Memorial.
On our way to the FDR Memorial, we were told by a very nice police officer that we need to check out the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial, and as a bonus, it is on the way. It is a very beautiful and powerful memorial, which is well deserving. We continued to the FDR, and walked through that memorial, snapping pictures along the way and I think we all came to the agreement that our day is nearly done. At the end of the day I took over 25,000 steps and walked over 10 miles. I knew we would be trooping it, but not like that. Sorry Grandma, but you are a ROCKSTAR! We dropped her off and proceeded back to Denise’s house for the evening. I was able to put the drone up in the air for a few minutes and capture a little bit of the sunset. Another sucessful day of adventure, so what’s next on the agenda.. I’ll tell you next time!
If you are planning a visit to DC, I highly suggest trying out this app fro parking. Save yourself time and a headache. It is very simple to use. You can check it out here —> SPOTHERO

Awesome pictures in the Nations Capital. Trust that I never ever drive to DC. Metro for me please. It has been a while. We went for the Washington Nationals Parade when we took the World Series. I really need to make an effort to get back to see some of my favorites. Thank you for sharing. <3
