hey YO! Here we go with another Thompson adventure, but this time it spans over a few days. It starts mid-January, and there is a storm heading our direction. Usually I do not put too much attention into the “winter” forecasts here in East TN, but this one felt different. It might have to do with the excitement that Aurelia might get to experience her first snowfall, or the simple fact that I love the snow!

The snow moved in and wasted no time covering the ground. Luckily the roads were still ok to drive on, especially since I still had to go to work. While I was at work I continued to peek outside for updates and that fueled the excitement of going home to play! Fast forward to around 1pm on that Monday afternoon, I was home safe, and getting dressed for the outdoors. Andrea, Aurelia and I are set, let’s do THIS!

Now I would be lying if I said all of the excitement was just Aurelia playing in her first snow. I wanted to play too, and that meant taking a hike on Day 2 of our winter daze. I took a half day at work and made my way home. After an almost hour and half delay I pulled into our driveway. The snow that laid on the ground was beginning to turn into a frozen tundra due to the rigid temperatures. The high for this day, 22! This meant we needed to hurry if we wanted to make it outside before it got even colder. Layers and layerswe put on as we prepared to tackle to winter day. Unfortunately our favorite location for a hike was closed, so we had to go with a backup, Warrior’s Backbone. We made quick work of the hike despite the conditions. We may have gone further but with Aurelia with us, we didn’t want to chance anything.

The remaining couple days of our winter fun included some drone flying and waterfall chasing. The flights were from the local YMCA parking lot, and from our front porch. Ever since I got my drone I’ve been looking forward to expanding my photography with shots that I would not have been able to get otherwise. I was only able to take short flights due to the wind and very cold temperatures, but here you go..

The conclusion of the winter daze founf Andrea and I seeking a quick waterfall trip in hopes to find it frozen. After some thoughts on which one to go for, we decided to stay close by and head to Laurel Run Park in Church Hill. We headed down the road and as we were approaching the park the roads became, well, not plowed you could say. Luckily they were not unpassable and we were able to make it to our destination. There is nothing quite like hiking in the snow. Its peaceful and fresh. We made sure to take our time since it was a crunchier snow but we still made it to the falls in no time. WOOHOO!! It was exactly what I was hoping for! We snapped some photos and I took the drone for aquick flight, then we came back home, satisfied with our winter fun. I sure hope at some point this year we get a little more snow for the Thompsons to play in, but if not, we made the most of what we already got. Thanks for reading my blog, I truly appreciate you! Until next time, keep a smile on your face and love life.. captain out..
